Introducing Unified Alerts: A More Consistent, Visible, and Scalable Approach to Alerting

As IT environments grow more distributed and complex, alerting becomes harder to manage consistently. 

Different alert types often behave differently. Some alerts are configurable while others are not. Visibility into what’s monitored and what isn’t can become fragmented across devices, collectors, and teams. Over time, scaling alerting across large environments becomes increasingly difficult. 

That’s why we’ve been rebuilding alerting in Domotz from the ground up. 

The result is Unified Alerts: a new framework for configuring, managing, and understanding alerts across your entire environment. 

Unified Alerts is now available for all new users by default and as an opt-in beta for existing customers. 

A Single Framework for Alert Configuration 

At the center of Unified Alerts is a new concept: Alert Rules

Alert Rules provide a single, consistent structure for configuring alerts across Domotz. Instead of separate systems for different alert types, Unified Alerts brings everything into one unified framework. 

Alert Rules now support the full range of events and monitoring data available in Domotz, including: 

  • Device status and heartbeat events  
  • Configuration management events  
  • Custom OID, SNMP, and TCP sensors  
  • Drivers and scripts  
  • Cloud and local integration events  
  • Security-related events  

This builds on the existing alert rule model already used for sensor and script metric alerts, while extending that consistency across the platform. 

The goal is simple: make alerting easier to standardize, easier to scale, and easier to manage. 

Visibility Into Alert Coverage 

One of the most common operational challenges with alerting is understanding where alert rules are applied and where they are missing. 

Unified Alerts introduces visibility into alert configuration at every level of your environment. 

You can now view Alert Rules and their application status across: 

  • Individual devices  
  • Device inventory views  
  • Collector inventory views  
  • Collector-level configuration  
  • Account-wide configuration  

This makes it possible to quickly identify gaps in monitoring coverage, understand how alerts are configured across environments, and ensure consistency across distributed deployments. 

Instead of treating alerts as isolated notifications, Unified Alerts treats them as visible, manageable operational objects across the platform. 

Standardized Severity Across All Alerts 

Unified Alerts also introduces consistent severity levels across all alert types. 

This creates a standardized framework for prioritization, escalation, reporting, and future automation workflows. 

Severity becomes the foundation for a number of upcoming capabilities, including: 

  • Improved alert summarization and reporting  
  • Enhanced maintenance and snooze scheduling  
  • Configurable trigger intervals  
  • Smarter notification workflows  
  • Future AI-assisted prioritization and tuning  

Consistency in severity may sound simple, but operationally it becomes critical as environments scale and alert volume increases. 

Scalable Alert Management with Device Profiles 

Managing alerts individually across large environments quickly becomes difficult. 

Unified Alerts extends alert management into Device Profiles, allowing teams to define alert configurations once and apply them consistently across groups of devices. 

This makes it easier to: 

  • Standardize monitoring policies  
  • Deploy shared alert logic at scale  
  • Reduce duplicated configuration  
  • Maintain consistency across multi-site environments  

For MSPs and IT teams managing many customers or locations, this creates a much more scalable operational model. 

A Centralized Alert History View 

Unified Alerts also introduces a new Alert History experience. 

For the first time, Domotz provides a centralized view of both Active and Resolved alerts across your environment. 

This includes: 

  • Full alert timelines and context  
  • Historical visibility into alert behavior  
  • Filtering by severity, device, and time window  
  • Visual summaries show counts for filtered views 

Importantly, alerts no longer require an operational notification channel. Lower-priority issues can remain visible inside Domotz without necessarily generating notifications or escalation noise. 

The result is a more complete operational picture of your environment and not just a stream of outbound notifications. 

Building the Foundation for Intelligent Alerting 

Unified Alertsis not just about improving configuration workflows today. It also establishes the foundation for the next generation of monitoring and automation capabilities in Domotz. 

Future roadmap areas include: 

  • Smarter Correlation and Noise Reduction 

Build on alert dependency relationships to improve grouping, prioritization, and signal quality. 

  • AI-Assisted Alert Management 

Provide guidance for troubleshooting, issue summarization, prioritization, and alert tuning. 

  • Automated Remediation 

Enable suggested and automated responses to operational issues. 

Unified Alerts is designed as the operational framework that enables these future capabilities. 

  • Configurable trigger intervals  

Control how frequently an alert condition is evaluated before a notification fires, reducing noise from transient or flapping issues. 

Transitioning to Unified Alerts for Existing Domotz Customers

Unified Alerts is available today as an opt-in beta. 

Existing personal and shared alerts will continue to work as they do today while customers transition at their own pace. 

Sensor and script metric alert rules are automatically retained within the new framework, and we are actively exploring migration tooling and automation to simplify broader transitions over time. 

During the beta period, we’re particularly interested in feedback around migration workflows, scalability requirements, and operational visibility needs.
