We are very excited to announce that the Pre-configured SNMP templates are here! This feature is designed to put the simple into SNMP so it’s really easy and fast to start with monitoring SNMP variables from printer ink and supply levels to free storage on your NAS devices.
Domotz has built this brand new feature so you can monitor SNMP variables on Printers, NAS, and UPS devices in a few simple clicks. We are also ready to add more and more templates to this list!
Before we start, here’s a quick refresher on the basics of SNMP.
What is SNMP?
Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a set of protocols for network management and monitoring that exchange information between them.
However, if you are not familiar with the SNMP protocol and how SNMP works, here is a blog post describing its main characteristics.
What is SNMP Sensor?
Long story short, SNMP Sensors monitor what’s going on with your devices. The difficult part is how you go about configuring an SNMP sensor.
If you already use SNMP Sensors with Domotz, up until now you’ve had to manually configure a sensor to get the information from the device. This configuration is at the device level and could be time-consuming if you need to say, for example, know the status of every printer, on all your networks.
Now with the pre-configured SNMP sensors, this configuration is pre-done for you so all you have to do is click and go.
What can SNMP monitor?
SNMP allows you to collect a wide variety of metrics from network devices, such as uptime, throughput, temperature, interface errors, CPU utilization, and memory usage.
Above all, Domotz network monitoring software enables you to analyze changes in these metrics over time and visualize their metrics in dashboards.
We all know that the SNMP configuration process can be tedious and time-consuming. Look no further! Now you can rely on Domotz pre-configured SNMP sensors to start with SNMP monitoring in minutes, without any difficult configuration process.
Domotz automatically identifies all devices that have the possibility for you to apply an SNMP sensor. To clarify, you can just need to open your device and Domotz will tell you whether there are pre-configured SNMP sensors for it or not. All you need to do is click and decide to apply the sensor to the device to start extracting more detailed information from it.
1) Printers
Thanks to the Pre-configured SNMP Templates for printers you can get automatically the toner cartridge levels, drum units, supply levels on your printers, and more.
2) Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)
Provides you with information like battery status, voltage, current, temperature, estimated remaining minutes, and remaining charge level.
3) Network Attached Storage (NAS)
You’ll get information like the number of hard disks, volumes, CPU usage, CPU or system temperature, available memory, and so much more. You can visualize the information in 3 separate views:
- Basic Info Table including information about the CPU Usage, CPU Temperature, Total Available Memory, Free Memory, Uptime, System Temperature, Number of Hard disks, Volumes, Last Error Message.
- Hard Disks Table including details about Hard Disks, Description, Status, Capacity, Info, Temperature, Model.
- Volumes Table will display Volumes, Description, Free Size, Total Size, Filesystem, Status.
Here is a NAS example:
1) No tedious configuration process
This new functionality is big news because it provides you with SNMP Templates that are pre-configured for certain devices. In fact, they don’t need ANY configuration and are ready to use out of the box. You just decide whether to apply the templates to the device or not. No time-consuming configuration process and no complicated instructions to follow.
2) Dynamically updated
If your monitoring system discovers a new device on the network that has a pre-configured SNMP sensor available, it will dynamically update it in real-time. For example, you start using the Pre-configured SNMP templates on your NAS hard disks or hard drives. Domotz will always monitor all your hard disks and drives no matter if the number of those changes. You’ll always know when templates are available on a device even as you add devices to a network.
3) Equipped with historical values
Our pre-configured SNMP templates have been developed to monitor numerous values. In addition, you can see how these values change periodically via the included graph.
We hope that you see how simple our pre-configured SNMP templates are.
