This October marks two decades since the launch of Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Considering that about 93% of organizations were victims of two or more identity-related breaches in the last year, the need for greater cybersecurity and awareness around the issue has perhaps never been higher.
As we head into this critical month, here are some virtual events and initiatives worth attending as an MSP.
Table of contents:
Take your security to the next level.
Whether you want to boost your cybersecurity knowledge or are looking for resources to assist with business partners, we have you covered:
CISA Cybersecurity Resources
CISA has much to share, so check out the resources they share with attention!
- Cybersecurity Toolkit: One of the main reasons Cybersecurity Awareness Month was created was to encourage organizations to take the time to raise interest and education on the issue. The CISA Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2024 Toolkit guides organizations on creating their campaigns and resources for the month so that you’re not only participating in the learning side of things but actively spreading awareness too.
- CISA YouTube Channel: Each year, CISA shares a number of videos on its YouTube channel for Cybersecurity Awareness Month on how to recognize and respond to basic cybersecurity issues. While it’s too light for professional viewing, it is useful for cybersecurity professionals looking for resources to boost knowledge for non-IT staff and business partners.
- Follow CISA on X/Twitter: Not only does CISA host an interesting Q&A series on X for Cybersecurity Awareness Month to help newcomers understand issues better, but they’re also excellent at sharing events and resources that pop up throughout the month.
NCA Cybersecurity Awareness Month Kick-Off
When: 2 pm ET, October 2, 2024
To start the month off, the National Cybersecurity Alliance and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) have partnered for a virtual event featuring various industry experts and government leaders. IBM Webinar on Leveraging Security AI And Automation
When: 11 am ET, October 3, 2024
This webinar will share information about mitigating the impact of data breaches.
AI is still the buzzy new kid on the tech block, and this webinar is all about exploring how AI can protect against data breaches and reduce their impact. The speakers will chat about how this technology can be used to respond faster to threats and even predict them. It won’t be a one-sided discussion, though. As with any innovation, there are risks involved, and AI is no different, so we’re happy to see that the webinar will include a look at how to use AI more safely in this sphere.
NIST Identity and Access Management Fundamentals for Small Business
When: 2 pm ET, October 23, 2024
Identity and access management used to be something only bigger companies paid attention to, but as smaller businesses find themselves vulnerable to security threats, they’re cottoning on to the importance of this area of cybersecurity. This event will feature two key speakers, one of which is the Digital Identity Program Lead at NIST.
The focus is on exploring the leading technology and approaches for effective identity and access management, and how to make sure your MFA is phishing resistant. It’s a great chance for industry professionals to brush up on where things are headed. Additionally, you can learn more about how to scale cyber security with a business as it grows.
When: 23-24 October 2024
In-person registration for this coveted event has already been filled out, but you can still sign up to join virtually. The NIST and HHS-hosted event will focus on multiple aspects of cyber security in the healthcare space. It will share updates from federal healthcare agencies, and all the practicalities of implementing the HIPAA Security Rule.
As telehealth becomes increasingly popular, safeguarding health information is getting trickier and events like these are a great way to stay sharp on the subject.
